They do some good things, some bad.
I liked the noodles and the walnut miso but their rice was absolutely awful.
To me, even though I know it specialises in noodles, the rice is a litmus test for a Japanese restaurant. It was soggy, tasteless.
Also the tempura was allright but nothing to write home about.
Somebody Japanese please explain the point and purpose of the traditional bland tasteless sauce that goes with it?msmarmite loverhttp://marmitelover.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-786917785571459431.post-73391857630559905342010-07-09T16:26:43.415+01:002010-07-09T16:26:43.415+01:00@Lizzie - More udon for you!

My companions all love it so still worth checking out, just not my cup of tea.

@London Chow - It has a lot of fans who keep returning. I think Koya is a good little place, I just can't get excited by udon.

@Dave - I think for what they do, they do it well. But like you said, udon isn't for everyone. I like my noodles less like earthworms ;)

@Catty - Oh, Yalla Yalla is ace. I ...I happen to like Koya but I know what you mean. I have rogue tastebuds and don't always like what other people love. Pho for example, I NEVER have pho and people are astounded that I can have Vietnamese without pho. And there is that incident of me not liking Yalla Yalla because of the parsley hehe.. Anyway, good on you for going back ;)cattyhttp://www.thecattylife.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-786917785571459431.post-33490585328676941382010-06-19T08:42:49.990+01:002010-06-19T08:42:49.990+01:00Koya isn't going to be for everyone. This is one place where the hype has been lived up to, but it won't be for everyone.davehttp://www.ilivetoeatandeattolive.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-786917785571459431.post-4528192815224689042010-06-19T01:12:03.466+01:002010-06-19T01:12:03.466+01:00Wasn't a fan of Koya as well myself. But a Japanese gentleman sitting beside me was slurping merrily on his udon with a grin on his face all the while... I did find myself thinking when I read the initial wave of raves that 'It's just a bloody noodle bar, what IS all the fuss about?' so it's good to see that someone who's actually been - I remain in no rush - shares that view.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14948980890459312618noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-786917785571459431.post-55779392449605239262010-06-18T12:07:35.711+01:002010-06-18T12:07:35.711+01:00As you well know I am a huge fan of Koya; I just l...As you well know I am a huge fan of Koya; I just l;ove the texture of their noodles.
