You sit at the bar and he makes the rotis in front of you! I think they're a lot better than the ones at Rasa Sayang, less oily and he does some great curries with them - lentil, fish (my favourite - although I'm guessing from your post not yours!) and meat.

Try it out!Sarah Alexandra Georgehttp://sarahalexandrageorge.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-786917785571459431.post-60082417469379461492012-08-27T15:19:48.091+01:002012-08-27T15:19:48.091+01:00Hey, just wanted to comment on this. Am British, but have belonged to a social group that was 80% Malaysians for 7 years plus, and been to Malaysia several times too! :)
Hainanese Chicken Rice is one of my all-time favourite dishes. Have eaten it in a plethora of places in KL, and personally, I rate the one at Rasa Sayang very highly. It's the first place I'll go to eat whenever I am in London (which is quite often) and, hell, it'll usually be the last place I go to before I leave as well, hehe). I've only ever tried a few other things on the menu, which were ok (a clear noodle and chicken soup, the name of which eludes me, was also particularly delicious), but for me, the chicken rice is so good, I never bother to order anything else!

Maybe you just had an off day? I am a real foodie with very high standards, and I've had the real thing from restaurants and hawker stalls in M'sia many times, so I don't say this lightly! :)

Anyway, for those looking for alternatives, Sedap, and Nyonya both have good reputations, and I also personally recommend highly Bonda Cafe near to Paddington station; Malay-run, rather than M'sian-Chinese, it does daily and weekend specials. You can eat a veritable feast of freshly cooked food (of decent quality) for about £7 or so :DAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-786917785571459431.post-34064998459145406422009-07-19T23:43:55.884+01:002009-07-19T23:43:55.884+01:00@thebus,

Will probably give it a shot the next time round.

@American in London,
I frequent Sedap as it's a stone's throw from my place. The service is great and Julie (da boss) is friendly too. But if you were to drop by, do try the Nonya kueh, they're are way better than those that I've tasted in Singapore, not sure about Malaysia though.London Chowhttp://www.londonchow.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-786917785571459431.post-28241665373000233692009-07-06T23:53:28.753+01:002009-07-06T23:53:28.753+01:00@an american in london:

Re: the "meh" food at Rasa Sayang, I kind of agree. I ordered a large number of dishes with friends, and while quite a few of them were good, too many were bland or tough to make me want to go back. (Leong's next door still does it for me). I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on Sedap in Clerkenwell/Old Street.An American in Londonhttp://rwapplewannabe.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-786917785571459431.post-7565557245166089162009-07-01T09:45:53.364+01:002009-07-01T09:45:53.364+01:00Nope, Kiasu is still open (in Queensway, right?). ...Nope, Kiasu is still open (in Queensway, right?). There was one obscure one run by students in Paddington but that place got closed down, so right now we are not left with much choice. Kiasu (bayswater) being the best of the lot but by no means amazing, whilst on the other end of the spectrum there are plenty of really crappy ones (e.g. Georgetown).
The chicken in your chicken rice looks as if the chicken has been boiled to death (hence why probably it doesn't have much flavour in it)

g

p/s I am a fellow Malaysian too ;)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
